What is an F1 race?
It is a competitive, draft-legal format of triathlon racing. This is the type of racing that TriJuniors focuses on.

Why race on a Friday morning?
Holiday weekends can not be used to permit Fiesta Island, and this is the one time of year when pretty much everyone, (parents and kids), have time off, since it is between Christmas and New Years. We think this will make the event well attended, and give many athletes a great jump-start on the 2012 season!

We don't live in Southern California, can we still participate if we come out?
Absolutely! We are just calling the So Cal Championships, since that is where the race is located.

My son/daughter is not very competitive, what race should they do?
If your child is between 8 and 15 years of age, they can do the Youth Non-Drafting race event. This is a shorter, fun based event. If they are over 15, then the only race they can do is the F1.

How is the age of the athlete determined?
Based upon USAT rules, it is the age of the athlete as of December 31st, (the next day).

My son/daughter has never done a triathlon, but they are interested in this race, but are too old for the shorter, youth race, should they enter the F1?
Yes! This will be a great experience, and we can help your child race the event, with a proper bike, equipment, etc. Contact the race coordinator, Jim Vance at coachjimvance@gmail.com. We also have a triathlon camp the two days before for youth and juniors!

Is there a race expo and packet pick-up the day before?
No, there is only packet pick-up on race morning. This keeps the event condensed and easier to manage for all.

Will this race be wetsuit legal?
The temperature of Mission Bay in December is a bit chilly, so expect the race to be wetsuit legal.

Will this race qualify me for anything?
Not anything in particular, but this will be the biggest youth/junior race in the country in the winter months. It is the perfect opportunity for athletes to prepare for the upcoming season, especially those who want to prep for the Elite Cups, PATCO, and USAT Junior Nationals and the Junior World Championships.
